At Michigan State University, researchers are advancing battery technology to improve EV energy density, safety, fast charging, and weight reduction, while developing swappable battery modules and working toward a prototype electric car built entirely through MSU research.

Michigan State University’s College of Engineering welcomed 18 faculty in Fall 2024. Interim Dean of Engineering John Papapolymerou said that these additions will help the growing student body become innovative and solution oriented.

Michigan State University Dean Leo C. Kempel’s last day as dean in the College of Engineering will be Sept. 30, 2024, after more than a decade.

John Papapolymerou will be recommended to the Michigan State University Board of Trustees to serve as the interim dean of MSU’s College of Engineering, effective Oct. 1, 2024. Pending board approval, he will succeed Leo Kempel, who has served as dean since 2014.

Teancum Piekkola is a junior at Michigan State University from Mountain View, Wyoming, studying materials science and engineering with a concentration in polymeric engineering and a minor in energy. This summer, along with nine other Spartans, he is a student researcher at the IMDEA Materials Institute  in Madrid, Spain, as part of an annual collaboration between the institute and MSU.

A research documentary short, created by MSU’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) and featuring Jose Mendoza, has won a Telly Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the 45th Annual Telly Awards.

Michigan State University researchers are making a difference in Michigan and around the globe — and they are being honored for their work.

The Michigan State University College of Engineering Graduate Student Awards Ceremony and Graduate Research Symposium showcased nearly 200 students. The annual events, created by the college in 2012, give participants ranging from first-year graduates to those nearing completion of their Ph.D. the opportunity to share their work and network with faculty, staff and industry partners.
